Your winter home update starts here!

With the cooler months rolling in, now’s the perfect time to slow down and make your home feel a little softer, warmer and more inviting.

Updating your space for winter doesn’t need to be a big project. Often, it’s the smaller, thoughtful changes — like new cushions or an added throw — that create the most impact. It’s about layering warmth, comfort, and texture in a way that feels calm and effortless.

Here are a few simple ways to refresh your space this season:

1. Layer your textures

Don’t underestimate the impact of texture — it adds warmth, depth and personality. Think nubbly linen, washed cotton, natural fibres, and soft knits. Cushions made from different materials will bring life to your lounge or bed without needing bold colours or patterns. Start with a few base cushions, then layer in some textural contrast to keep it interesting but still cohesive.

2. Add a throw (or two)

There’s something comforting about a throw within reach. Choose one with a bit of weight — maybe a thick cotton weave or soft wool blend — and drape it casually over the arm of the sofa or at the end of your bed. It adds instant warmth to the space (and to you on chilly mornings). We like keeping one in a basket by the lounge for easy access — functional but still beautiful.

3. Keep it soft and neutral

Winter is all about comfort, and colour can play a big part in that. We’re drawn to soft, earthy tones that feel calm and grounded — like oat, sand, driftwood and muted stone. These shades work across any style of home and make it easy to layer in new pieces without feeling like you need to change everything. Start with a base of neutrals, then add in texture to keep things feeling warm and considered.

4. Mix up your cushion sizes

This is a simple styling trick that makes a space feel more layered and intentional. Use a mix of oversized back cushions, medium square ones and a lumbar for variety. Group them in odd numbers and play around until it feels balanced. The goal is to make the space feel lived-in and relaxed — not overly styled or stiff.

5. Style a spot to retreat to

Everyone needs a cosy corner, especially in winter. It doesn’t have to be big — maybe it’s a reading chair, a nook by the window, or your side of the bed. Add a few cushions, a warm throw, soft lighting and maybe a candle or your favourite book. It's those little details that turn everyday spaces into somewhere you want to spend time.
