How to care for your cushions and throws

Do you ever have that feeling that you have SO MUCH to do in your house that you don't even know where to start? And end up not doing much at all...

When you invest in our homewares, you’re not just choosing style - you’re choosing quality, longevity and comfort. At Coastal Addiction, every cushion is handmade using natural fabrics and our throws are woven from breathable, natural fibres designed to soften with age.

Our tips for caring for your cushions

1. Fluff Regularly

To keep your inserts full and plump, give your cushions a light daily fluff. If you have feather inserts, gently plumping them from all sides, along with a 'karate chop' helps redistribute the feathers and maintain their shape. For man made inserts, I find unzipping the cushion and getting your hands into the fibre and gently 'pulling them apart' can give them a new lease of life.

2. Rotate and Restyle

Rotate your cushions weekly to prevent uneven wear and minimise pressure on any one area. This not only keeps them looking symmetrical but also allows the fabric to breathe. This is a very easy task in our house as most of the time they end up on the floor by end of the day.

3. Spot Clean Where Needed

For minor spills or dog/kid marks, gently blot with a clean, damp cloth—avoid rubbing, as this can damage the fibres. Use a mild, natural detergent and always test on a hidden area first.

4. Wash With Care

Most of our cushion covers can be removed and gently machine washed using a cold, delicate cycle. Air dry flat in the shade to preserve the integrity of the fabric. Use a warm iron (it's only usually the linen that needs a quick rub over... or not depending on how formal you want them to look)

5. Insert Maintenance

Feather inserts should not be machine washed. Instead, air them outdoors occasionally in a shaded spot to keep them fresh and odour-free. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight or heavy moisture. Man made inserts should probably be replaced every couple of years as once they go flat, they never quite make it back to their previous plump glory.

Looking After Your Throws

1. Gently gently...

Our throws are crafted from natural fibres, such as cotton, linen or woollen blends. Some may be machine washable, while others are best
cared for with hand washing. Most of our items come with a tag that gives full washing instructions so always read this before washing.

2. Wash carefully

Use a mild detergent and cold water. Avoid bleach or fabric softeners, which can break down natural fibres. Lay flat or hang to dry naturally and don't put them in the dryer (I know it's tempting!)

3. Store with Thought

When not in use, fold your throw neatly and store in a cool, dry cupboard. Avoid plastic storage, which can trap moisture. Instead, opt for cotton bags or open shelving.

Other general care tips for your soft furnishings include a light vaccuum to keep on top of the dust and keeping them out of the direct sun.
